I just love gardening. It’s hard work sometimes but it’s so satisfying to look at the finished borders and neatly cut lawn and marvel at the bulbs and plants that have been planted, as they blossom and grow. The aim of my gardening is to work with nature creating areas for bugs to thrive, planting herbs within borders for contrast and fragrance. I keep weeds if I like them and I prune hard! I am terrible at remembering the Latin names though! What I create works well and my garden gives me joy all year round.

I’ve tried to showcase the seasons in my garden. A recent addition has been the raised beds giving me kitchen ingredients easily to hand, such as salad leaves, tomatoes, radish, onions, beetroot, carrots as well as kale and spinach.
I’ll share with you some of my MUST HAVE tools and a few hints and tips that I have picked up from fellow gardeners.

I have been using the book Veg In One Bed as a guide to what to plant and when. My neighbour (who is a professional gardener) put me on to this. and a similar style for the allotment is the Allotment Month by Month book.
As much as possible I have grown from seed, used my raised beds and a cold frame as a nursery and then potted on, grown on sturdier plants to transfer to the allotment.
My allotment is hilarious as in the first year I planted way too much, too close together but my allotment buddy, Frank, was a legend and he taught me so much. His allotment was amazing! Sadly he died in 2022 but I won’t forget what he taught me in my early allotment days

A NEW SIGN on Pen Y Fan
A new sign on Pen Y Fan aims to direct walkers correctly, preventing them from heading the wrong way. While the author is typically not fond of signs, they acknowledge this one’s potential to save lives. They also request credit for a shared picture, the original author unknown.

I attended a delightful Indian Block Printing Workshop led by Cath Kidston and hosted by Charlie Dobbs Events at Ham Court. The day was filled with warm hospitality, engaging discussions, and delicious food. The atmosphere fostered creativity and friendship, making it a memorable experience that I highly recommend for anyone interested in crafting.
